PC Stinger:  Ned Shakeshaft
This month's pick is more of an NPC stinger, hailing from the old 1st Ed. module U1: The Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh.  Here's what Derek White had to say about his choice...

"My favorite NPC of all time... is from my favorite module of all time.  The funny thing about this NPC... He's an assassin that was put in the haunted house.  But I never got to use him because he was upstairs, and no one would go upstairs.  Everybody went straight to the basement, every time.  I have run this adventure more times than I could count, and no one would ever go upstairs, so I never got to use him in the game.  But I used him, like if I was playing in someone else's game, and I'd say, 'Hey, can I play an assassin?', and they would say 'Sure'.  I would use Ned Shakeshaft.  So he is my favorite PC and my favorite NPC of all time..."

NED SHAKESHAFT — supposedly imprisoned in area 15, he is a Waghalter (3rd level assassin) pretending to be a 2nd level thief.

  1. The Devil and Tom Walker by Washington Irving was the early American short story I was trying to think of when we were discussing Robert Johnson/Crossroads.

  2. More corrections: Tim Curry in Legend, not Legion. Talking is hard.
